Manu National Park is the crowning jewel in Peru's environmental crown. Featuring more than 1.5 million-hectares of untouched tropical forest, the park is a haven for millions of birds, mammals, fish, and reptiles.
If you want to visit Manu National Park you must have had a yellow fever vaccination and malaria tablets. It is also highly advised that you bring insect repellent as the effectiveness of the nets provided is not guaranteed.
Although most of the hikes are technically simple, beware you will be at significant altitude and walking in humid conditions. You should check the level of walking involved with your particular tour to ensure you aren't caught off guard!
Tours run year round, with two main seasons to consider. The dry season, which runs from May to November, will be much hotter, but paths will be easier to navigate. The wet season is often a better time to spot wildlife, but also increases the volume of mosquitos.
At present Cusco is a safe city with limited or no criminal activities. Local population is generally friendly and police are cordial to deal with. It is however recommended that you keep your belongings safe.
