Off-piste riding is synonymous with higher risks of Alpine hazards, such as crevasses and avalanches. It is essential that you do not venture alone and always hire a local guide to help you navigate through the dangers and advise you regarding the current mountain conditions. Be very honest about your skiing/snowboarding level, and if you have never skied on powder snow before, take an introductory course on freeriding. This is a lot of fun and will enable you to master the practice before being able to enjoy more intense expeditions.
