Get picked up at Leh airport. Settle down at a hotel. You have to begin acclimatization. You may have some difficulty adjusting to the altitude, dryness, and cold winds of Ladakh today, but everything will be fine if you get enough rest. Staying hydrated is essential for a successful summit trip in Ladakh.

Today, we will hike a total of 10 kms, which will take approximately 5 hours to complete, with the Markha River accompanying you the entire way. Because villagers and yaks frequently travel the same route between the two villages, the pathways are well paved. Along the trek, seek unique Himalayan birds like the Eurasian magpie and white cap red star, as well as the nimble blue goats, who are excellent at ascending steep and inclined surfaces. An old wooden bridge will take you to the other side of the Markha river stream 5 km into the path, and the trail from the bridge expands and opens up to a river bed full of multicoloured stones buried in dried-up grey sands for the next 4 km all the way up to Sara hamlet.

We'll cover 10 km in 5 hours. We'll pass through Mane walls before arriving in Chalak, a charming tiny village. As you descend from Chalak, you'll come across two unique local ingredients: the sour berry, which is widespread in the Himalayan ranges, and the wild rose berry, which is used to brew tea. Visit the nearby Markha monastery if you arrive early at the campsite. The view from the monastery is extremely stunning, and from the top, one can overlook the entire Markha village landscape below.

With some ascents and descents, the road to Hankar is similar to the day before. Today, we get our first glimpse of Kangyatse, the massive peak that looms over Hankar hamlet. It immediately captures our attention and silently motivates us to reach the summit. Blue sheep and ibex, as well as snow leopards, are commonly seen here.

Today, after an early breakfast, it's time to explore Nimaling which is a large meadow. We get to enjoy up-close views of Kang Yatse, a massive snow-clad mountain range that overwhelms us with its majesty. There is a small chorten where we can pray for a successful summit.

The shortest hiking day of the entire trek; we start a little late and walk steadily to Kangyatse Base Camp. We will rest after reaching the campsite and let our bodies gather energy for the challenging summit attempt to 20,500 ft.

Today is the day of acclimatization and orientation. In the evening, we will practice use of technical equipment. Brush up self-arrest, group arrest, glissading, 3-point climbing, toe kick climbing, and heel descent on snow. An early dinner and early sleep. Wake up around 10:00 p.m., and commence ascent towards the summit (time may vary depending on the situation).

The grand finale. We start the summit push around midnight the previous day and aim to get to the top by 6:00 a.m. and get a glimpse of the sun rising across the sea of mountains. The summit is a rocky outcrop on the north face which we approach via the northwest ridge. The trail begins with scree and crumbly moraine. There are crevasses on the way up that are usually covered in snow. We will need to rope up for safety on the steeper and exposed sections. Trekking poles (two of them) help for balance and stability. From the top you get 360-degree vistas of the Zanskar range and Karakoram peaks. At distance of 250 Kms you can spot K2 (the second highest peak in the world). We slowly and safely make our way back to camp getting there for a hot mid-day meal and celebrations.

Going back from the mountain we cross Chokdo via Kongmaru La (17,100 ft). After a 2 hours ascent to Kangmaru La Pass, we’ll be greeted by the Karakoram range. A 6 hours hike from here will take us to Chokdo. The scenery is intriguing with its amazing colors, geological formations with gigantic vertical walls of rocks on each side and the surge of water filling up these small pathways where you also spot some of the most interesting wildlife you will ever see. We drive all the way down to Leh in our pick-up car where we have a grand celebration.

Are you ready to live your adventure…….to take the plunge?” We were gearing up for the gruelling climb to the summit of a 20,000+ ft peak in the Himalayas and this question kept reverberating in my mind as we commenced our hike at midnight. It was the full moon and night of a lunar eclipse, as we crossed the glacier and started the steep ascent towards the summit ridge, I was panting and my mind was getting blurred ....”can you do it after so many years?” On the ridge the body had given up, it was only the mind and we kept chugging up and ahead, roped up and in unison. On the summit we took the plunge and Reccy was born.
We were all young adventurers in college - doing mountaineering, hiking, rock climbing, skydiving, scuba diving, paragliding, skiing - and then got busy with our professions….. with pharma research, in the Air Force, designing and erecting steel plants, developing software, in investment banking and private equity….and then we came back together to indulge in our passion again. But planning an adventure trip can be arduous, we struggled with these questions everytime we wanted to go out of our comfort zones again.
Hence our mission is to make it easier to search, compare, plan and book the best adventures worldwide…...so that we get inspired to Cross the Line.

The Kang Yatse 2 trek, one of the highest trekkable peaks in the world, will take you high in the Himalayas and is a must for mountaineers and hikers visiting the region. Trekked during the summer months, the Kang Yaste 2 will offer amazing conditions and scenery while pushing your physical boundaries.
Despite not being extremely technical during the first few days, the Kang yatse 2 trek presents difficulties during summit day. For this reason, it is preferred that trekkers have previous experience in mountaineering and hiking at high altitude. Altitude is indeed a major consideration as the risks of AMS (Acute Mountain Syndrome) increase with every step you take towards the summit, so make sure to stay hydrated and to share any altitude sickness symptoms with your guide. Finally, check that your travel insurance covers hiking in altitudes above 3000 m.
