The Eiger and its impressive North Face is one of the most iconic peaks, not only in the European Alps but also in the world. It is a must climb for experienced climbers and can be summited on its own or as part of a longer climbing expedition including the Matterhorn and the Mont-Blanc for example.
Climbing the Eiger is a technical challenge that requires adequate preparation and equipment and should be attempted in the summer months (June – September). You need to have previous technical experience of alpine and rock climbing in boots and carrying equipment on snow and ice, as well as an excellent fitness level to take on summit day. In addition, make sure to have the adequate equipment for a safe and enjoyable climb. These are all requirements from tour companies and your guide will do a checkup with you beforehand and may also insist on a few additional days prior to the start of the expedition to practice your skills and acclimatize. As with all expeditions, also make sure to have a suitable insurance covering climbing above 3000m.
