The hike to Steingletscher or Stone Glacier is ideal for hikers of all skill levels and ages who would like the chance to see a giant glacier up close. Additionally, the scenic drive offered by the Susten Pass and the community-driven Alpine center provides an unforgettable and genuine glimpse into daily life in Central Switzerland.
The Steingletscher hike is only accessible from June to November; the snowfall obscures the path entirely during the winter months. The Susten Pass is also closed from the west during the winter months due to the steep incline needed to reach the Alpine Center. Those who wish to visit the lodge during the winter months may approach from the east. Lastly, Switzerland is part of the Schengen area, and travelers from outside this area are required to present a valid passport or visa to enter.
