This trekking adventure offers a unique opportunity to see the largest glacier in the Swiss Alps, and to stay at a cabin far removed from any village. This is an excellent option for families looking to holiday in the summer months, especially those who would like to engage their kids in exploration via hiking trips Switzerland alone can offer.
Due to the precarious nature of traversing over ice, you will need a backpack, waterproof hiking books, crampons, and a safety harness of some sort. Depending on your guide service, some of these equipment pieces are included or available for rental; take time to go through the recommended packing list. This is a great hike for children over age 12 due to the relatively easy nature of the hike; however, there is a total of 10 hours hiked, which may greatly fatigue some individuals. Lastly, Switzerland is part of the Schengen area, and travelers from outside this area are required to present a valid passport or visa to enter.
