The Inca Route is a trek that allows hikers of all experience levels to see the best parts of the Inca Empire on a condensed tour. The route highlights some of the most beautiful ruins in Chachabamba, Wiñay Wayna, and at the Sun Gate before arriving in Machu Picchu.
Some of the considerations that need to be taken before departing on the Inca Trail is to plan far in advance, and to bring proper documentation. The Inca Trail is the most frequented route option for hikers and due to this there is a limitation on how many people can hike the trail. All visitors must hike the Inca Trail with an organized tour and often these spots fill up quickly, reserve a place on a tour at least 4 months in advance. On the tour you will receive a permit to hike the trail and you must bring your passport with you along the trek.
At present Cusco is a safe city with limited or no criminal activities. Local population is generally friendly and police are cordial to deal with. It is however recommended that you keep your belongings safe.
