Rainbow Mountain is one of the most unique and beautiful natural attractions in Peru. Its colorful arcs are like no other on earth, and cannot truly be appreciated through photos. The hike to the top offers unforgettable views of the stunning Andes.
Altitude should be a serious consideration for anyone hoping to climb Rainbow Mountain. Many people fall victim to altitude sickness, due to lack of preparation and acclimatization. You should spend at least 48 hours in Cusco before making the trip, and ensure you are physically fit enough to handle the climb.
If you need to use a horse, make sure it is in good physical condition, and doesn't show signs of neglect.
Wear suitable footwear, especially if it rained recently. Summer is the best time to visit Rainbow Mountain, as wet weather spoils the view and makes the mud trail harder to navigate. Check the weather forecast before booking your tour.
At present Cusco is a safe city with limited or no criminal activities. Local population is generally friendly and police are cordial to deal with. It is however recommended that you keep your belongings safe.
