The Inca Quarry Trail to Machu Picchu is unique for its route that leads through impressive archeological sites such as the check point of Q’orimarca, the sun gate called Inti Punku, the Kachiqata Quarry that supplied rocks to for building Ollantaytambo, and the ancient Inca town of Ollantaytambo. This trek explores both the natural beauty of the Sacred Valley and Urubamba Valley while allowing hikers to learn about the ancient Inca civilization through remarkable ruins.
Before departing on the Inca Quarry Trail, things that should be considered are the altitude, packing, and weather. This route to Machu Picchu reaches very high altitudes and prior to trekking this trail hikers should take precaution to acclimatize to the altitude in the city of Cusco. When packing for this adventure it is important to be prepared for the diverse weather that can be encountered in the Peruvian Andes. Bring very warm clothing, especially because this trek requires hikers to camp for the first two nights. During the day pack light exercise clothing that can easily be layered or taken off.
At present Cusco is a safe city with limited or no criminal activities. Local population is generally friendly and police are cordial to deal with. It is however recommended that you keep your belongings safe.
