The Ausangate Trek is unique for exploring the natural beauty of the Peruvian Andes by exploring Rainbow Mountain, hot springs, glaciers, and summiting both Paccacpcha and Chillca Pass. This trek connects hikers to nature by camping every night in incredible locations such as being surrounded by hanging glaciers. This trek is perfect for experienced hikers who enjoy climbing up challenging passes and being rewarded by the incredible panoramic views.
Before departing on the Ausangate Trek, some considerations that should be made are to pack proper clothing and to train for the hike. The Ausangate Trek involves camping for every night other than the final evening in Cusco, the temperature can drop below freezing during the nights and early mornings. Due to this, it is critical to bring warm enough clothing for sleeping during the trip. This route to Machu Picchu requires a lot of physical stamina and most days trekkers will be hiking for nearly 8 hours, to complete this trail it is important to train prior to hiking it.
At present Cusco is a safe city with limited or no criminal activities. Local population is generally friendly and police are cordial to deal with. It is however recommended that you keep your belongings safe.
